Biography
Elizabeth Blosfield's earliest memory of wanting to be a writer is from elementary school. She recalls answering a few 'about me' questions for a class project, and one of the questions asked: What is your talent? Elizabeth wrote, "stories." Today, her passion for storytelling remains the same.
It wasn't long after deciding to pursue a writing career that Elizabeth found journalism. She spent three years as a senior editor and entertainment reporter at her high school newspaper. Upon graduating, she moved to Kent, Ohio, to pursue her love for writing and reporting at Kent State University.
At KSU, Elizabeth worked as an assistant producer for Portage County's student-run television station, TV2, and a city reporter for the Kent Stater, a student-run print and online newspaper in Portage County. As her love for multimedia journalism grew, she traveled to Florence, Italy, to study for four months while writing for the travel and lifestyle magazine Flo' on The Go. Upon returning, she obtained a B.S. in broadcast news and mass communication from KSU in December 2013. She began her journalism career as an intern for Salem Communications in Cleveland, Ohio, where she assisted with production and promotion for several Northeast Ohio radio stations.
Elizabeth currently serves as deputy editor of Carrier Management, a quarterly national trade magazine for the insurance industry. She also hosts The Insuring Cyber Podcast, an award-winning, bimonthly podcast featuring interviews with industry experts on the intersection of cybersecurity and insurance. She has a background in financial journalism, previously working for the monthly trade publication, EnergyRisk, as an energy and commodities reporter focusing on government regulation of the industry. Prior to that, she was a commercial property reporter for a weekly newsletter, Real Estate Finance & Investment, where she covered global commercial real estate transaction news and market trends.
Elizabeth has received seven awards of excellence from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) for her coverage of insurance litigation within state supreme courts, cybersecurity topics, and the COVID-19 crisis, as well as The Insuring Cyber Podcast, which has been recognized three times by ASBPE and nominated for the International Women's Podcasting Awards. Elizabeth has appeared on WNYC's "The Takeaway", a national politics and culture news program broadcast on NPR, to discuss her coverage of business interruption insurance claim denials in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. She has also spoken at InsurTech New York's 2021 Accelerator Education Day at Barclays Rise Auditorium in New York City on how to pitch stories to journalists and at IASA Xchange 2022 at the Baltimore Convention Center about trends in the insurance industry. Elizabeth hosts Between the Lines, an hour video news program featuring interviews and commentary on the insurance industry. She frequently moderates panel discussions with experts on a variety of topics related to cybersecurity and insurance, and she curates and hosts an annual summit featuring panel discussions and presentations serving Carrier Management's InsurTech and insurance carrier audience.
Elizabeth is a creative writer as well, with work published in UP Magazine, Broadway World, Thought Catalog, Buzzfeed, Reapparition Journal, Poets Live and Chicken Soup for the Soul. She is the creator and host of The Adult Ballet Studio, a People's Choice Podcast Awards nominated podcast featuring interviews with those working to make ballet inclusive for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Always up for a good story, she enjoys reading biography and memoir, watching documentaries, or writing in coffee shops in her spare time and welcomes recommendations in all three categories.
